The first Thrill Blues Festival in 2017 started with Blues at School, a children’s blues workshop about the origin and history of blues, in the Trill primary school, which was designed and led by the artistic director of the festival, Boris Hrepić. As a special guest of the workshop, the headliner of the festival was Eric Sardinas and his band Big Motor.
Since then, every subsequent Thrill Blues Festival started with a Blues at School workshop, which would be joined by local and foreign blues musicians. Thus, in the following years, Lorenzo Piccone, Ismaila Mbaye, Tomislav Goluban, James Perri, Krešo Oremuš, Ralph de Jongh, The Crossroads Blues Project took part in the workshops, which Miro Dimić from the Poprock school joined in organizing.
Last year, at the 6th Thrill Blues festival, Blues at School grew into Thrill Blues School, and in addition to the workshop for the youngest, blues lessons were also organized for older young musicians, which were held for three mornings in the classes of the elementary school in Trill. The lecturers and mentors of the ten participants of the Thrill Blues School were foreign and domestic blues musicians and educators such as Michael Roach, Little George Sueref, Yogi Lonich, Miha Vlah, Tomi Novak and Jurica Leikauff.
The classes were followed by members of the board of the European Blues Union, President Davide Grandi and Fred Delgorge.
It was in cooperation with them that the Thrill Blues Festival sent two students of the Thrill Blues School to Norway at the end of July to the Nottoden Blues Festival, the largest European blues festival, which also includes the Little Steven Blues School, a blues camp and school sponsored by the famous guitarist Little Steven. In June of this year, one of our students will participate in the blues workshops organized by the Pinetop Parkins Foundation, which are held in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
And this year, Thrill Blues School is going further.
Keep The Blues Young.
